The need to protect dolphins
Dolphins are among the most charismatic and intelligent marine mammals with a long history of cultural and symbolic significance for many peoples. They represent joy, freedom and intelligence. Cetaceans play a critical role in ocean ecosystems. However, human activities have caused a significant decline in their population, making it imperative to protect them.
Their eradication would represent not only an ecological but also a moral loss for humanity. Their protection is closely linked to the idea of preserving the natural heritage for future generations.
OUR ACTION
For 30 years “ARION” has been taking care, rescue and reintroduction of sick, injured or orphaned cetaceans in Greek waters with specialized veterinary support. It contributes to the protection of cetaceans and their habitats by supporting scientific research on cetaceans and the threats they face through collaborations with the scientific and research institutions of the country.
It is a dedicated, multi-disciplinary team of people implementing integrated conservation actions for dolphins and whales.
